Beef or chicken? How about neither! Aside from your sweet vows, your wedding food will likely be the second most-talked-about part of your day once all the celebrations are said and done.
Part of throwing a great party is having an impressive spread of food and drinks that will delight your guests and keep them satisfied throughout the day’s adventures.
With so many couples embracing craft beer and innovative culinary trends, it’s no surprise that a standard, plated wedding fare is being replaced with interactive food stations, family-style meals and fun finger food with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients.

So, before you pre-order 200 plates of standard banquet fare, have a look at some of these cool new foodie ideas that are sure to impress your guests more than a plate of roast beef and steamed carrots (This post is not bashing plated food, because lets be honest there is always room for some steamy roast beef and roast potatoes but I am just sharing some new and different ideas, which you may not have thought of).

A few 2015 food trends:
1. Comfort Food
When it comes to appetizers, comfort food is rapidly becoming a wedding staple. Even couples that opt for more classic wedding dinners are making sure their hors d’oeuvres and food stations include decadent indulgences like macaroni and cheese or chill poppers.
Consider making your favourite comfort food more wedding-appropriate by serving mini portions or presenting the signature dish in a bar with fancy toppings and sauces guests can use to customize their treats.

2. His and Hers Options
His and hers signature cocktails are already a popular wedding trend, but what if your differing palates extend beyond the bar? If he’s a big meat eater and you’re a strict vegetarian there’s no reason you can’t both showcase the things you love. The best way to do this is by taking the and hers concept one-step further with appetizers, food stations and mini bars.
Set up a station in one part of your venue to highlight your love of sour worms and sweets and a craft beer section in another area to highlight both your individual loves; or have ‘his and hers’ hors d’oeuvres circulated.

3. Food trucks
They’re pretty cool, make a great decor centerpiece and you will probably be the most popular wedding trend of 2015… food trucks! From Afternoon tea, to donuts and wood-fired pizzas. Can you imagine having a buffet entirely provided by food trucks? Heavenly!

4. Naked Cakes

‘Naked’ cakes have replaced the colourful frosting with fresh fruit, glitters and flowers. A choice for couples that want to have a healthier dessert option, but don’t want to trade in on the beauty of a frosted cake!

5. Long Dining Tables
Weddings are the ideal place for families to come together. Long tables reinforce this sense of togetherness. Communal dining is on the rise in 2015, they work well in formal and rustic settings and it helps encourage conversation! You’ll get to know everybody and might even find a new best friend!

6. Edible Favours
The biggest trend for 2015 are edible favours! Not just mini-jars of sweets, but more like food-kits. Do your guest a favour and give them something edible. Your guests will be very thankful for these yummy treats! [I definitely would]!
